I have come to know Coco as an extraordinary artist and as a truly exceptional person: full of infectious energy, with an exuberant temperament, an abundant joy for life, boundless adventurousness, and profound introspection — and with a barely describable talent for looking beneath the surface of things, for questioning, and when necessary, asking three times over to draw her conversation partners out of their comfort zone.
All these vibrant facets of her multi-layered personality find expression in her art, in her colors and her forms, driven by light, nature, and inner peace.
Coco is a traveler, a seeker, and at the same time a finder. Her journey is one of arrival — after long and successful years in the investment industry — at herself and in her work. The title of her exhibition, “If you have seen it all, close your eyes,” stands in direct relation to the experiences she has gathered on her travels across the world.
Her works resemble, almost uncannily, the landscapes she has encountered and internalized across more than 130 countries: bright, impasto fields of color with bold blues and pinks alternate and stand in direct contrast to one another, expressing both surging energy and warming tenderness. These are landscapes in which her longing for freedom and independence finds its voice — in which her desire to constantly explore the new finds its painterly point of departure.
Yet Coco is not only a master of expressive art. With just a few effortless strokes, she succeeds in capturing the essential — clearly, yet at the same time mysteriously: a pianist leaning with relief against his grand piano after a concert, an elegant lady holding a cocktail glass at a vernissage. Coco the draughtswoman takes in her surroundings with a sharp and immediate eye, yet tempers her knowing gaze with gentle, benevolent gestures.
