Let me be real - Landgericht Memmingen – 2025
Memmingen is celebrating!
Exactly 500 years ago, the so-called “Twelve Articles” were written here – the first written demands for human rights in Europe. This historic moment makes Memmingen the “City of Freedom Rights”, and it is being honored throughout 2025 with a vibrant anniversary program. I’m all the more delighted that my painting series “The Cosmos is Having a Buzz Party” has been on view at the District Court of my hometown since April.
The exhibition runs through October, and on October 3rd, I will be giving a guided art tour there – mark your calendars!
The “Twelve Articles” of 1525 are considered a groundbreaking political document in the history of civil liberties. Drafted by representatives of the peasant uprising in southern Germany, they demanded fairness, autonomy, and dignity long before these ideals became common ground. As a practicing lawyer and a passionate advocate of freedom in all its forms, this place and this anniversary hold special meaning for me.
“LET ME BE REAL” deals with disillusionment in the face of a world that promises connection and delivers chaos. It’s a reflection on our desperate attempts to celebrate togetherness while floating in existential solitude – somewhere between confetti and cosmic silence. At its core, the work raises a quiet yet urgent question: what does freedom mean in a world that’s constantly online but rarely present? In this way, it resonates with the same longing for dignity and self-determination that echoed through the Twelve Articles five hundred years ago.
A very special thank you to the President of the Regional Court, Dr. Beß who, with great dedication and an incredibly pleasant manner, made this exhibition possible in the first place.
