SIGNIFICANT OTHERESS

A resonance rises from deep within, reaching outward into the world — toward neighbors, loved ones, and every soul encountered along the way.

The idea for this series was born in 2020, while I was traveling in my van. I had run out of watercolor paper and ended up in a supermarket, where I spontaneously bought paper dessert plates as a substitute. What began as an improvisation became the foundation of an ongoing body of work.

Since then, more than 500 faces have emerged on these unexpected surfaces — portraits shaped by encounters with fleeting people met on my travels, in cafés, or in passing moments of connection. Each face carries a trace of what remained after the encounter: a feeling, an echo, a silent imprint of presence.

My portraits gather a profound emotional depth from friends, family, and strangers alike — truths briefly shared, beauty revealed in its most unguarded form.

Out of these hundreds of faces, I have chosen five. With a heart-centered devotion, I return to them again and again, redrawing them through evolving layers until each one reaches its 99th version — as if understanding is never final, only deepening.

SIGNIFICANT OTHERESS becomes an ode to human connection. It is the act of seeing and being seen, distilled into a continuous dialogue between artist and encounter — a celebration of what remains between people long after they have crossed paths.
