“Art is not only a means of pleasure, but also expression and establishment of freedom, the relation of the internal world to the surrounding environment (…), the conflict of idealism and realism, the relation between the existence and non-existence. The mentality of the artist is always related to the events around him, because these events create the art.” (Maka Batiashvili)
Maka Batiashvili lives and works in Tbilisi, Georgia, where she was born in 1975. After her studies of monumental painting she devoted herself to smaller formats and video works that were shown in diverse exhibitions in Georgia. Her works are journeys into silent strange worlds – thanks to concentrated observations from an unusual perspective, and thanks to their references to Georgian reality. Apart from her artistic work Maka Batiashvili is member of the Georgian Artist Group and curates and organises political actions.
